The flat and tranquil route, winding through the picturesque vineyards of Rhineland-Palatinate, guarantees a delightful and accessible ride for families. This carefully planned itinerary allows even the youngest riders to revel in the beauty of the region, fostering a memorable and pleasant cycling experience along the river.
Important: You do not need to be in a family group to book this tour. The route is ideal for those looking to book a cycling holiday for the first time or would prefer shorter distances each day.
Arrival in Trier and at the hotel. You will receive the travel documents and rental bicycles (if booked) at the hotel. Trier is overflowing with historic Roman buildings. Whether it's the symbol of the city, Porta Nigra, or the amphitheatre, it's well worth a visit. Or you can visit the toy museum and participate in the cool museum rally.
Finally, your bike ride starts! On the left bank of the Moselle, you cycle on easy cycle paths past Pfalzel to Schweich. Here it is worth making a small detour to the adventure pool with its 52 metre long giant slide. You then continue on the right bank and along the "Wine Route of the Romans" to the recreational lake Triolago where you can enjoy the toboggan run, football golf, water ski cable car and much more. Then we continue to Mehring, your overnight stop.
Visit the remains of the Roman Villa Rustica. Then it goes over the cycle path along the Moselle further via Detzem and Leiwen with their large playgrounds. Past the vineyards, you cycle to Neumagen-Dhron, Germany's oldest wine town. Perhaps you will see the original Roman wine ship sailing on the Moselle here or perhaps you will also make a cultural journey through history yourself. Once you arrive in Piesport, you can visit the Roman wine press from the 3rd century.
Today you cycle to Bernkastel-Kues, where the numerous small alleys and the colourful half-timbered buildings are impressive. In the evening we included a short boat trip for the family (only for variant 6/5). For parents, we recommend a sample of the well-known "Bernkastler Doctor".
Numerous vineyards also accompany you on today's bike tour. Through the wine-growing region "Kröver Nacktarsch" you reach your destination for the day with Traben-Trarbach. Many leisure pools invite you to relax along the way. Traben-Trarbach offers some architectural masterpieces of Art Nouveau and the Belle Epoque. We've included a short round of miniature golf for your family.
In Enkirch, a pearl of half-timbered architecture on the Moselle, you should take a short break. You cycle through the wine-growing region "Zeller Schwarze Katz" to Bullay. Embedded in forests and vineyards, this place has lost none of the charm and unadulterated romance of an old wine village.
You arrive early in Beilstein, commonly known as the Rothenburg on the Moselle. From there it goes with the Moselle ship to Cochem. In Cochem, you should plan enough time to visit the charming center and the 11th-century Imperial Castle. The Cochem chairlift takes you to the Pinnerkreuz viewpoint. Enjoy the view over the city and the Moselle!
Today we say goodbye to the vineyards, castles and ruins. Or would you rather experience even more adventures during an extra day on the Moselle?
