After arriving in Strasbourg, you have a full day to explore the city in Alsace. Don't miss Strasbourg Cathedral! After the day of arrival, you will head north kilometre by kilometre. Daily stages of 20 to 65 kilometres are on the itinerary, which you can master with ease.
A beautifully landscaped cycle path leads you through the city to the banks of the Rhine. You can drive comfortably along the river via the Rhine plain. In Drusenheim you take the ferry to the other side of the Rhine and through the beautiful meadow landscape, you continue to Rastatt with its baroque old town.
Idyllic cycling today along the tributary of the old Rhine through seemingly untouched nature. Then you will pass through the largest nature reserve in the Palatinate, “Hördter Rheinauen”, to the former fortified town of Germersheim. The newly constructed quay on the Rhine and the pleasant city centre provide a lot of relaxation here.
The original Old Rhine takes you to the imperial city of Speyer and its impressive cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The famous castle and palace gardens in Schwetzingen are further highlights of this tour before your day ends in Germany's oldest university city, Heidelberg.
Today's route takes you along the Neckar to the ancient Roman city of Ladenburg with its very beautiful historic old town. Cycle through the Rhine Valley to the imperial city of Worms with its 12th-century cathedral, Martin Luther monument and the oldest preserved Jewish cemetery in Europe.
It continues pleasantly along the Rhine. A lot of farming will accompany you on your stage today. Everything that is grown tastes good! Today you will cycle partly again along the bifurcation of the old Rhine and soon the first vines will appear on the other side of the river. Then it is only a few kilometres and a crossing of the Rhine to the charming wine village of Nierstein. Definitely try a glass of Riesling in the evening!
A short stage so you have a lot of time to enjoy the scenery. Immediately after Nierstein, the cycle path leads to the vineyards. Let your gaze wander over the Rhine valley, impressive are the steep vineyards and the giant river as the lifeline of this region. Directly on the banks of the Rhine, the cycle path then leads to the centre of Mainz. The Imperial Cathedral and many other attractions draw many visitors from far and wide.
